CAMP SHIELD 2019

Camp SHIELD was held September 20-22, 2019, at Camp Kinard in Batesburg-Leesville. Camp SHIELD was an opportunity for entire families to remember and honor their loved one, to grieve together outside of the funeral in a relaxed, safe and supportive setting. Families were allowed to express emotions, share their grief, connect with others and learn positive coping skills.

Camp SHIELD is offered free of charge except for a small $50 administrative fee per family.

The application process for Camp SHIELD 2020 is not currently open. If you would like to attend the Camp SHIELD 2020, please fill out the inquiry form [JACOBY'S SHIELD INQUIRY].

VOLUNTEERS

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Jacoby’s Shield. Camp SHIELD could not happen without a large community of volunteers. And, as our services grow, so does our need for volunteers at camp, and outside of camp.

We do not exclude staff or volunteers with disabilities. However, because the role of a volunteer can sometimes be emotionally and physically strenuous, we expect that any person volunteering at Jacoby’s Shield will have the ability to supervise and provide safety for our campers.

We require that all Camp SHIELD volunteers attend a training prior to volunteering to gain a better understanding of family child bereavement and volunteer expectations.

For camp weekends, volunteers need to be available from noon until late evening if volunteering on Friday, all day if volunteering on Saturday, and until 1 p.m. if volunteering on Sunday.

If you would like to serve as a volunteer at Camp SHIELD, please fill out a volunteer application [Click Here]. If you have any questions about a specific role, contact Jacoby’s Shield at info@jacobysshield.org.
